Welcome to the Moses Mendelssohn Akademy


  Klaussynagoge

The Moses Mendelssohn Academy was founded in 1995 and it based on a civil law Foundation. The Academy works closely with the “Moses Mendelssohn Zentrum” in Potsdam. The Moses Mendelssohn Academy mediate interested people basic knowledge about jadaism, jewish history and culture. In the former Rabbinical Seminary, the so called “Klausynagoge”, there is a international meetingpoint for varied conferences and seminars.


The Berend Lehmann Museum


The Behrend Lehmann Museum in Halberstadt opened in fall 2001, on the occasion of the same year as the former state Prussia celebrated his 300th birthday. The museum is named after the court jew of Halberstadt Behrend Lehmann (1661 – 1730). The museum is dealing with german – jewish culture, especially with history and culture of the jews in Prussia .


Museums Kaffee Hirsch (coffee shop of the museum)


The name “Hirsch” stands for five generations of the jewish merchandiser and industrialist dynasty “Aaron Hirsch & sons”. The founder of the firm, Aaron Hirsch, started his business with a metal trade in 1806. He bought metalwaste from steelmines and sold it to iron ores. The company was run according to traditional Jewish commandments (for example kosher food in the canteen for the employes and they didn´t work on Saturday). Aaron Hirsch support generously the jewish community of Halberstadt.
